Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation - FDIC-Insured - Backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government
Lawrenceburg Federal Bank has served the Lawrence County, Tennessee area since 1934. While keeping our community and personal service the focus, we also offer conveniences that one might think could only be offered by much larger banks. Our story is one that we are proud of and one that continues on year after year.
The first meeting of the incorporators of Lawrenceburg Federal was held on June 2, 1934. At this first meeting the following officers were elected, M. Richardson, President and Chairman of the Board, J.D. Boynton and W.W. Massey, Vice Presidents, F.F. Locke, Attorney, J.F. Hobbs, Secretary-Treasurer. Edgar Perkinson, J.D. Boynton and Charles Roy were elected to the appraisal committee. A nine member Board of Directors was also elected at this time. Mr. P.E. Hickman who was manager and only employee in the 1930’s and 1940’s ran the Association from his city clerk desk at City Hall. Mr. Hickman served as manager and then later as President until 1980.
As Lawrenceburg Federal grew and more employees were needed the association moved to their new location at 247 East Gaines Street. In these early years, the only products offered were mortgage loans and one type of savings account. In the early 1960’s the need for another move into a larger building become necessary. In June of 1964, Lawrenceburg Federal moved to their new building at 251 North Military, where Elliott & Associates Insurance is currently located. Three people were employed at that time and all accounts were hand posted. In the early 1970’s with demands of newer and faster ways of taking care of customers’ accounts two posting machines were installed.
With the struggle of Savings and Loans in the 1970’s, Lawrenceburg Federal’s board of directors, led by Chairman Billy Helton, Sr. exercised diligent and thoughtful strategies that proved to not only maintain profitability but strengthen their reputation in banking. This was probably one of the biggest factors that would write the pages of our story today.
In 1986 Lawrenceburg Federal made their final move to our home office now at 118 West Gaines Street. Lawrenceburg Federal now offers multiple types of savings and checking accounts, certificates of deposit, and consumer and mortgage loans. We have a core customer base that has remained faithful and loyal to our institution. This core and reputation we have built in our community is what we believe will help us grow and continue to serve generation after generation.
